Laurie grew up going to church sporadically as a child. Her mom and dad didn’t participate, but some of her friends did. Whenever Laurie would spend the night with one of her friends she would often end up going to church with them the next morning. Laurie wasn’t opposed to going to church. She was fascinated by some of the stories she heard while she was there, but she didn’t really understand too much of what was going on.

My family and I returned this past week from spending two of the most awesome weeks of our lives in the mountains of Colorado. Instead of roasting throughout the day in the Oklahoma heat we wore long sleeved t-shirts. Instead of looking for miles over flat lands, we hiked up and down gorgeous mountain trails. Instead of our normal routines, we did things that were out of the ordinary for us, and we had a blast.

For most people having the security of knowing that we can deal with things at face value is of great importance. Eighteen years ago, Connie promised to love me with all of her heart for the rest of her days. In eighteen years she has held tightly to her promise and her commitment has given me such security as I live my life from day-to-day. Words can’t adequately express the stability and sense of peace that I experience in my relationship with Connie because she has proven her commitment to be true.
