Habakkuk: Yet I Will Rejoice!

The prophet of God was disturbed in his spirit. He had felt the revival fires that had visited Judah during King Josiah’s day fade from a roaring blaze to mere flickering embers. He had watched the Temple slowly become empty and the hearts of the people become full of themselves. Pride, lust, greed, violence, and injustice had moved into the city square and began rotting the foundation of the Holy City.

You Can Make The Difference!
1 Kings 18:16-30

Many years ago, during the Boxer Rebellion in China, there was a young girl who made a difference. She stayed at a mission station and the insurgents had just captured the little station where she was staying. The men blocked all of the gates but one. The captors placed a large wooden cross on the ground in the walkway of the mission station. The men passed the word that any of the 100 students who would trample the cross under their feet would be set free. For those who refused to trample the cross there would be a firing squad awaiting them.

Have We Forgotten?

One year ago churches all over America were calling special times of prayer. Talk about God and His promises of peace and protection were echoing throughout the land. People who normally would not have given God a thought, were suddenly struck with an urgent desire to pray, read God’s Word, and attend church. What brought about this surge in interest in the things of God? We had just watched the Twin Towers fall by a terrorist attack and many were wondering if more attacks were on the way. There was mass uncertainty and confusion racing throughout the land. We had thought that we were secure. We had thought that America’s borders were impenetrable. We had thought that America was the land of the free and the home of the brave. Then we heard about Anthrax coming to us through the mail, terrorist cells in our own country, and more.

Chuck Colson, the Founder of Prison Fellowship, one of the most wonderful and needed ministries in the world, is a brilliant and passionate man who exudes humility like few people who have achieved such widespread notoriety. Twenty-five years ago you would not have seen such humility even though Chuck started out in humble surroundings when he was a child. He grew up watching people wait in bread lines as they tried to manage the daily pressures of poverty. As a young man he told himself, “The most important thing is for me to go to college.”
