Our experiences shape us. For most of us, “experiences” rather than “truth” carry more weight in defining our understanding of life than anything else. We arrive at the conclusion that what we experience, through our eyes, is truth. As a result of this way of thinking we can end up enslaved and led around by the nose by what we “think” is right and true. This was certainly the case with the false teachers of Galatia who had given their lives to propagating teachings that they held to be true, but were absolutely false. You need to know that God does not hold the same views of “experience” and “truth” that we do. Isaiah proclaimed,

They had experienced many years of marital camaraderie and intimacy, enjoyed a full life with many wonderful memories, and were looking forward to their retirement years. When Mike arrived at the University he completed all of the paper work, unpacked his bags in his dorm room, met his new roommate, and prepared himself for the first day of class.

I have been anxiously waiting to share from my heart a message the Lord has been teaching me during the past two weeks as I have been away with my family. Two weeks ago I left town with my family for vacation. I have learned throughout the past several years that the Lord allows me to go on vacation with my family for several reasons, not the least of which is to teach me. The lesson that has been most etched on my heart and soul during these past two weeks has been a lesson of humility and dependence.
