Revelation 19:6-10

Everybody loves a wedding. Some weddings are very simple and some are extravagant, but everyone loves a wedding. Some weddings are held in ornately decorated cathedrals and some people exchange their vows on the beach or in a friend’s backyard. Weddings are as varied as wildflowers, but everyone loves a wedding. Every bride is Cinderella in her beautiful gown and million dollar smile. Every groom looks like he stepped off the cover of GQ Magazine. Flowers smell sweeter at a wedding. The music is more melodious at weddings. Colors are more vivid and concerns are set aside so that everyone’s attention can be focused on the bride and groom.

From Sorrow to Songs of Rejoicing
Revelation 19:1-6

Sunday, February 18th, 2007

We witness the pain and sorrow of our human existence each and every day of our lives. We read about car bombs exploding in Baghdad, and in other parts of the world, plunging families into the depths of despair. We hear stories of young lives being cut short because of disease, addictions, and tragic accidents that rob families of their hopes and dreams for their children’s future. We read about persecution in other countries where our brothers and sisters are viewed as disposable objects and their suffering is beyond anything that we can even imagine. We experience sorrow firsthand as we attend the funerals of mothers, fathers, grandparents, and friends. Marriages end in divorce, jobs are lost, finances are stretched to the breaking point, and our dreams are dashed on the rocks.

The Fall of Babylon
Revelation 18

Sunday, February 11th, 2007

Last week we spent our time taking a look at the seduction of Babylon.  Babylon may be an ancient city, a distant city, but the lure and seduction of Babylon are closer than the person sitting next to us on the pew this morning. In Revelation 17 the churches of Asia Minor, and God’s people of every age, were counseled to avoid the seductive lure of the prostitute with her alluring ways.

Night of Worship and Prayer- Sunday, February 11, 7:15 pm

Monday, February 5th, 2007

There is a wonderful opportunity coming our way this Sunday, February 11. Immediately following our Bible studies we will offer a “Night of Worship and Prayer” in the parlor for those who want to join us for 45 minutes of singing and prayer. Hal Clifford will play guitar and lead us in our time together. I hope you will join us for this special time of prayer and praise.

The Seduction of Babylon
Revelation 17

Sunday, February 4th, 2007

Last week we spent our time studying the seven bowl judgments of Revelation 16. In Revelation 16:17, we read about the seventh and final angel of the judgments.
17 The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and out of the temple came a loud voice from the throne, saying, “It is done!” (Revelation 16:17 NIV)
I hope that none of us thought that with the pouring out of the seventh bowl the judgment was concluded at the end of chapter 16 because Revelation 17-18 is a continuation of the seventh bowl judgment. Let’s take a look at Revelation 17 this morning and see what we can learn.
