Thanks a Million!
Luncheon and Auction–HUGE Success!

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

Hi Everyone,
Today was the day that our young people had been looking forward to for a looooong time. We want to thank everyone who came out to our Spaghetti Luncheon and Auction today following church. Because you are the greatest, most supportive folks in the whole world we were able to raise a little over $4400.00 for our Spring Break Ski Trip to Colorado. (Now is the time you should jump up and down and shout, “Hallelujah!)

This coming Sunday, February 3, we will deliver all of the Super Bowl Subs that you have ordered over the past month. We have almost 150 subs that have been ordered and we will make an extra 50 subs for those of you who didn’t get around to ordering your sub for the BIG game. You can pick you subs up right after either worship service in the gym. Once again, thanks for your support!!

You May Have The Gospel,
But Does The Gospel Have You?
Romans 2:12-16

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking and praying this past week. As I study God’s Word it leads me to think and pray about what I am learning in the context of what I am living. Does that make sense to you? It does us little good if we read and meditate on God’s Word if we do not think and pray about it as it applies to where we are in life at the moment.

I don’t think this is the usual way that we Americans read God’s Word. Let me first say that studies show that most American Christians do not read the Bible. That is a sad and tragic reality. There are some American Christians who read God’s Word so that we can check the box on our “to do” list that says, “Quiet Time with God.” There are others who read God’s Word looking for help in their own life or for someone they love. For the most part most of us don’t read God’s Word as if it were a doctor giving us a thorough examination. I would suggest to you that each day that you take out God’s Word you should envision putting on that little gown you get when the doctor is going to give you a good going over. We should pray with the Psalmist, before we ever open God’s Word, so that God might teach us about our life in the light of His Word and His will. The Psalmist wrote,

Sunday, January 27, Noon

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

Hi Everyone,
Our high school and middle school kids are so excited about their upcoming ski trip to Colorado during Spring Break. This Sunday the will sponsor a Spaghetti Luncheon and Auction immediately following our 10:40 am worship service. You may be wondering, “What’s up for auction?” Well, have I got news for you! We will have some awesome homemade pies and cakes to bid on. We will also have some sports items for the sports collectors among us.

Two of the items I’m really pumped about are OU and OSU football helmets autographed by Heisman trophy winners, Barry Sanders and Jason White. helmetouosu.jpg Can’t you just see these helmets sitting up on your mantle? I hope you will come out on Sunday and have fun with us as we raise money to help the kids offset their costs for the ski trip. If you have never been to one of our auctions then you should come even if you aren’t going to bid on anything. It is so much fun watching folks battle it out over something they really want. Have a super week and I’ll see you Sunday.

In His Steps,
Mike

We have an OU football helmet autographed by Heisman winner Jason White and an OSU football helmet autographed by Heisman winner Barry Sanders! How did they do that?! You’ll never know, but you will want to be present with us so that you can bid on these awesome prizes! See you Sunday right after church.

Which Path Will You Choose
Romans 2:5-11

Sunday, January 13th, 2008

We like to think that anything is possible in life. We tell one another that whatever you want to do is possible as long as you are willing to work hard and stay at it. That is the predominant idea that we hear so much about when we are kids. The truth of the matter is that this idea is not totally true. There are limitations that each and every one of us faces in life. Life is not fair. Let me give you a few examples of what I am talking about.

Congratulations to Doug and Kim Brown!

Sunday, January 6th, 2008

Hi Everyone,
I had an experience I will never forget on Friday of last week. Kim Smiley was having a “surprise” smileybrown.jpgbirthday party at County Line BBQ. All of her friends gathered at 7:30 pm to surprise her when she arrived with her fiancee, Doug Brown. Unbeknownest to everyone there, the surprise was really on them. I had been meeting with Kim and Doug for some time preparing for their wedding, but nobody knew when it would take place. They had told everyone they were going to Las Vegas to get married.

At 8 pm I walked through the door and said, “Is this where the wedding is taking place?” Everyone looked at me like I was nuts. I said, “Are we having a wedding here tonight?” Kim stood up and said, “I know you all came here to surprise me, but the real surprise is that Doug and I are getting married tonight!” How cool is that!

We all moved into the next room where everything was prepared and Kim and Doug exchanged their vows. It was a night I will always remember. Thanks Kim and Doug for allowing me to be a part of your wedding.

Defending The Indefensible
Romans 2:1-4

Sunday, January 6th, 2008

This is our ninth study of Paul’s letter to the church in Rome. In the first chapter of Romans we learned that we are “without excuse.” Paul says that God has revealed His eternal power and divine nature to us through what He has made. We can see the magnitude, beauty, and intricate design of creation and know in our hearts that they point beyond themselves to their Maker.

In Romans 2 we will learn that we are without excuse for a second reason. Let’s take a look at our Scripture for today in Romans 2:1-4 and we will begin our study.
