Mission Statement of the BCC Music Ministry
“Shining the Light of His love and hope through our music so that Jesus Christ will be glorified in worship and others will be drawn into His presence.”
The Music ministry at Britton Christian Church is diverse and multidimensional in many ways. We continue to strive to provide a music program which appeals to a multi-racial congregation as well as provide an exciting and uplifting experience during worship for people of varying ages, backgrounds and cultures.
There are two Sunday morning worship services every Sunday at BCC. The 8:30 or Early Service is a totally Contemporary Service led by our Church Band, “Seeds of Praise.” Our 10:45 a.m. or Late Service is a blended service where we combine the old hymns with Contemporary music. “Seeds of Praise” also plays for this service, but, we also add an Organist and Pianist to play the Hymns and more traditional music.
The Music Ministry that God has raised up at Britton Christian Church has a three-fold purpose: through all of the music we learn and sing it is our goal:
1) To exalt and glorify our Risen Lord & Savior
2) To encourage, disciple and teach those who are involved in the various music ministries.
3) To share the Light and Love of Jesus Christ through the music we sing (and or play) so that others may come to intimately know Him.
The greatest desire of the BCC Music Ministry is to offer people of all ages an opportunity to participate in sharing their God-given gift of music. Here are the opportunities available to you at Britton Christian Church:
Seeds of Praise Band & Ensemble
The “Seeds of Praise” Band & Ensemble rehearse on Tuesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00. They lead the music for the 8:30 a.m. Worship Service each Sunday and present a variety of musical styles– Contemporary, Gospel and Praise & Worship Music. They are currently working on some original songs written by BCC band members and will be presenting them in worship this coming year. The Seeds of Praise Ministry meets year-round and is under the direction of Karl Wilburn.
The LightHouse Choir meets from September through May and rehearses on Wednesdays from 7:15 – 8:45 p.m. The Choir presents an anthem every Sunday at the 10:45 a..m Worship Service. The Choir also sings differing musical styles: Gospel, Contemporary, Traditional and Praise & Worship Music. They also present a Christmas Concert each year. There are no requirements for joining the Choir (as well as any of the other Choirs) other than “loving the Lord and desiring to praise Him in song.” The LightHouse Choir is under the direction of Connie Hays.
The Women’s Ensemble meets all year long and rehearses on Wednesday nights at 6:30. The Ensemble fills-in for the Choir from June to August when the Choir has their Summer break. The Ensemble also participates in special services throughout the year and has a repertoire separate from the Choir. The Ensemble is under the direction of Connie Hays.
BCC Youth Choir
The Youth Choir meets on specially planned Sunday evenings to prepare for the Youth-Led Worship Services in which they not only provide anthems and special music, but, lead the congregation in Praise & Worship. (Exact times and dates are TBA.) They work on a variety of current musical styles that appeal to the youth of today. The Youth Choir is for young people in grades 6-12 and is under the direction of Connie Hays.
BCC Children’s Choir
The Children’s Choir meets on Sunday evenings during the Sunday Night Live! Program at 6:30. This Choir is for elementary children in grades K-5. The children learn fun, Scripture-based songs and periodically present them during the Sunday morning worship services throughout the year. Every year the Children’s Choir presents a Christmas Musical, which is one of our Church’s holiday highlights. Starting in the Fall of 2006 the Children’s Choir began to be led by the new Children’s Music Director, Cheri Redburn.
BCC Preschool Choir
The Preschool Choir also meets on Sunday evenings during the Sunday Night Live! Program. This Choir is for children ages 2-5; they are taught by their SNL Class teachers and learn age-appropriate songs which will be incorporated with games and Bible Study.
As time goes on, the people of our congregation and community are becoming more and more integrated and consequently the Music Ministry is continually changing to minister to the beautiful variety of people that God has drawn to BCC. We look forward to all that God has in store for us in the days to come as we continue to “Make a joyful noise unto the Lord!”
Make a Joyful Noise!
“Praise the Lord! For it is good to sing praises to our God; for it is pleasant and praise is beautiful–Praise the Lord!
